Live Laugh Love the Library

Exciting news!! Today I visited my local library and signed up for my first ever library card! Libraries are absolutely amazing and they have more to offer than just books. If you've never looked into the resources your local library, or libraries, have to offer, I highly recommend it. My library allows card holders to check out 30 items at a time, for three weeks at a time! Libraries usually have a long list of items available to the public depending on the location. These items may include DVDs, musical instruments, outdoor or sports gear, board games, craft supplies, technology, kitchen supplies and equipment, sleep machines, toys, litter clean up kits, telescopes, and SO much more! Library websites can provide a detailed list of all available items and how to obtain them for use.

For my readers, you can also use your library card for the app Libby. Libby can be used from your phone or Kindle, which provides access to ebooks and audiobooks for FREE! With popular books you may have to wait up to several weeks but you can add yourself to a waitlist through the Libby app and you will be notified once the item is available!

Additionally, libraries hold events for people of all ages! Recently I took a little boy I babysit to a music class for toddlers! Other typical events or programs are language learning classes, arts classes, career coaching appointments, storytellings, social groups, movies, etc.! If you're looking to get involved with your community this is the perfect way!

If you don't have a library card, this is your sign to get one! It takes less than five minutes! Now that I am a proud owner and have downloaded the Libby app, please send me some book recommendations!!

The Perfect Sunday

Sundays can be controversial. Some love it, others find it somewhat difficult. The "Sunday Scaries" are something we all feel in one way or another. In undergrad I dreaded the final rest day before five consecutive days of work, school, papers, projects, classes, etc. Now, I'm preparing for the transition into a five day work week, which hopefully will be less stressful than my college days. If you're like me then you don't feel mentally prepared if everything around you looks or feels like a mess. When I start a new week, travel, or simply exist, I like to feel calm and collected. I've managed to plan the perfect Sunday to prepare for the week and relax!

Step 1: Sleep in! The majority of the time you have to wake up early, enjoy the two days of the week you have the opportunity to get a few extra hours of needed rest. Unfortunately, I wouldn't recommend sleeping until noon, but let yourself get up with enough time to accomplish the following without rushing.

Step 2: Wake up slowly. Stretch, breathe, and plan what you need to do. I like to have a few minutes each morning to check my email, scroll on TikTok, and allow myself to become fully aware of what's going on. After waking up, grab a coffee or whatever drink sounds the most refreshing, and add some breakfast too. Breakfast is the most important meal of the day and it's usually overlooked on busy mornings.

Step 3: Clean up your space(s). I cannot function in a messy or cluttered area, especially when I want to relax or get work done. Tidying up first removes the stress of having to clean before bed and allows you to feel more refreshed and relax as you continue to mark things off your to-do list.

Step 4: Run your errands. Have to pick up a prescription? Need groceries? Complete all of this in the late morning or early afternoon when most people are at lunch or elsewhere. If you don't have anything to do, have a date with yourself! This could be picking up a coffee, taking a walk, buying yourself flowers, whatever makes you feel like you! Always appreciate yourself and your hard work!

Step 5: When you return home, find a comfortable stopping place for last week's unfinished work or this week's upcoming work. After treating yourself you should be in a good mood to get the "hard" part over with. For me, I typically did all of the small tasks for my job on Sunday so I didn't have to worry about it throughout the week. If I felt like it, I also worked on meeting my assignment goals or personal writing goals depending on the deadlines.

Step 5: Relax! If you need a brain break, watch an episode of your comfort TV show or a movie. I usually do this when I begin to wind down for the day.

Step 6: Everything shower! I'm a firm believer in "look good, feel good". That doesn't necessarily mean putting on a full face of makeup, but every now and then I like to shave my legs, take a bath, do a hair mask, etc. Everything showers make me feel ready for the week and extra hygienic, which for whatever reason, makes me more productive. This is the perfect time to do the maintenance I don't have time for during the week. After I take my personalized everything shower, I like to blow dry my hair and do a hairstyle that will last until my next hair wash day. Sometimes this is braids or heatless curls, whatever works best for your schedule!

Step 7: Be creative! Being on your phone or electronics can make the "Sunday Scaries" even worse as you anticipate the upcoming week. Take a half-hour or a few hours to do something that feels like YOU! I like to switch it up being reading, DIY-ing, or journaling. I prefer to reach this step around 6pm and after dinner, so I have at least 3 hours to do whatever I want before the 9-10pm bedtime.

Step 8: Have a cup of tea! Before bed I always like to relax with a nice warm cup of tea and a sweet treat. Warm tea, no matter the season, relaxes me. My current favorite is peppermint tea! After this, I start to wind down for bed, brush my teeth, etc.

Remember: go at your own pace. Feel free to switch these steps up, remove things, add things, whatever fits your lifestyle. I am personally a homebody so I like to spend most of the day in my own space before dealing with society all week! I hope you've enjoyed this semi-schedule, let me know how it goes for you!

My Low-Cost Hobbies Post-Grad While Job Searching

The daunting era that all college-goers dread is the state I'm currently in: life post-grad, with no job. I graduated two and a half months ago, and 50+ job applications later I have yet to find the right fit. Luckily, I have remained somewhat calm throughout the process. This transition was extra difficult for me because when I don't have achievable things to keep me occupied I tend to fall into a state of frustrated sadness. I like to feel as though I'm doing something "smart" or "productive" with my time, but I have been humbled during these last few months. I will get into job hunting on another day, so for now I'm going to share all of the things that make me feel creative and productive while discovering my new normal after school.

First, I spend (possibly too much) time on social media. As I've mentioned before, I like to use social media and screen time in a way that doesn't feel like screen time. Instead I make Pinterest boards, create collages, plan future trips, pick out outfits, find inspiration for this blog, etc. I've also spent hoursss on this blog and reading other blogs! I enjoy hearing others' stories and what they've been up to, which also gives me ideas on what to do in my free time. In the last few weeks I've created a Letterboxd and Goodreads account to log what I've been reading and watching. I'm grateful to have so much time to be able to read and I like keeping track as well, especially now that I'll be sharing book reviews on here! I am a Letterboxd newbie, but I think I'm getting the hang of it. Some days I lay in bed and watch movies all day, which doesn't feel so great when my brain tells me I need to be productive at all times. Letterboxd has given me what I call an "excuse" to watch movies. I haven't gotten into writing in-depth professional reviews, but I do enjoy seeing opinions on new movies. I am an avid movie watcher, I love going to the theaters to see the new releases, but there is nothing more that I despise than being throughly disappointed in a movie (the singular movie I left the theaters angry with was Adrift, a movie I was anticipating for months)!

Without a job I am severely limited on funds. Not fun, I might add. I am, or was, a frequent TJMaxx and Ross shopper, but now I've pulled back. Ironically it isn't the worst scenario. I've learned how to spend my money on things I truly want and items that will actually be useful. We all fall victim to the latest trend sometimes, even I have a needoh (only one, I'm not a psycho). To be more creative and save money I've started crafting with things I already have. For example, my cousin was giving away loads of bracelet making supplies and I gladly took them. Of course I've made Taylor inspired ones, but I've also made a bunch for myself, my boyfriend, and his family for our upcoming trip to Disney World! Another analog activity is making notebooks. I have plenty left over (who doesn't) from years of school. I've made some relating to my writing, manifestation, bucket list, etc. Using what I have left over from college (stickers, glue, sticky notes, random papers) I plan to start a junk journal! Junk journaling has been on my to-do DIY list forever so I'm very excited to start!

I am one of the few individuals who despise exercise. I hate being uncomfortable but I think being uncomfortable is good for the soul. I've started going to the apartment gym to get, even a little, movement in. On the cooler days of this blistering hot summer I've walked around the neighborhood too, which is more fun due to the presence of cute dogs! I'm not one to be able to stare at the wall on the treadmill or elliptical so podcasts and TV shows have been my best friend. Life hack: find a really interesting show and ONLY allow yourself to watch it on the treadmill! When I get extra snazzy and spend time on the elliptical, my playlist has to be super upbeat. I find "Sleazy" by Ke$ha to be the perfect song for this activity.

If you want to increase your memory longevity (and reduce dementia, I'll get back to you on the science behind this) try puzzles! Word search and Sudoku books have been my go to for days I absolutely have to log off, car rides, and time at the pool. The Dollar Store has plenty of options!! I also enjoy the occasional coloring page when my perfectionism isn't too overbearing. And, as I'll always recommend, READ!! Reading is soooo important (I'll make a blog about this too)! A Good Girl's Guide To Murder by Holly Jackson, if you like thriller/mystery, brought me out of my years long reading slump!

Lastly, here are some DIYs that are on my Pinterest board but I haven't gotten around to yet!

- crochet claw clip holder

- air dry clay: tic-tac-toe, trinket dish, and magnets

- button picture frames

- beaded plants, bookmarks, and bag charms

- wine cork cork board

- bottle cap vase

remember!! check out my Pinterest for more ideas =)

Finding the Inspiration To Be Creative

Ironically you may have found my blog through TikTok, and if so, hi!!! TikTok is a place I venture to when I'm bored, need a break, or want to mindlessly scroll. It can be informative, fun, and creative, but also addictive. If you're like me and you're looking for some ways to become inspired for whatever reason, you've made it to the correct corner of the internet! I just finished my degree in English, with a concentration in writing, so I'm usually finding myself looking for ways to become inspired to write. A group of students and I all met with, in my opinion, one of the best professors at our university to discuss our plans after college, ways to keep writing, and other "nerdy" things. If you have a blog, I'm going to assume you enjoy writing at least to some extent, so I'll begin with staying inspired to write!

Something that tends to always do the trick for me is looking at others' writing. Sometimes this is on TikTok, where I found some of the amazing blogs I follow now, and other times it's through reading. This works best when I'm really into or have just finished a book that is the same genre I want to write in. This also applies when I'm watching movies that follow characters with a similar lifestyle that I want. For me, it is Andie Anderson in How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days. If you're a law student or pursuing law school, your inspiration may be Elle Woods in Legally Blonde. Or, if you're me in an alternate dimension, your inspiration is A.J. Cook in Criminal Minds. Sort of like manifestation, you have to envision yourself with the life you want! P.S. if the writers out there want to create a writing chat, let me know! =)

If your hobbies are less mental and more physical, like baking, painting, or DIY-ing, try Pinterest! I use Pinterest to plan my life (literally, try collaging!!) and it contains endless ideas for hobbies. The majority of the time, when I lack the energy or funds to start something I see on Pinterest, I still create a board. While this is still considered "screen-time" I find that it leaves me feeling more fulfilled and helps me to be more creative in the future. What I love the most is centering an idea around an event or upcoming action. For example, I'm going to Disney World in a couple weeks, so I planned my outfits, bucketlist, and to-try foods on Pinterest. Some of those ideas I found on the site, but others I found on TikTok or Instagram. The moral of the story is, rather than using social media to be mindless, use it to your advantage to be MORE creative!

The art of doing nothing: my favorite pastime. The art of doing nothing is essentially leaving yourself alone with your thoughts while doing something that requires no thoughts. I first heard this on the Lucky Girl Podcast when I began going on walks through my neighborhood. The art of doing nothing, for me, is most effective in a location that you are new to, such as a hiking trail or a cafe. Being unplugged in a new place allows your mind to ponder and explore things that you wouldn't if you were swiping through reels. I often find inspiration when doing this, especially when I start to think of a new plot or character for a novel!

GET OUT OF YOUR COMFORT ZONE! To find inspiration you do not have to be extreme, but you should try something new! And for my anxiety girlies, it does not have to be scary. One helpful tip I use when doing something new to me is "do it for fun"! Pull back and realize we live on a floating rock in the middle of space and time is limited. This applies for absolutely everything: job interviews, traveling, meeting someone new, trying new foods, taking a test, applying for something, etc. Just have FUN! Getting out of your comfort zone means something different for everyone, so take it step by step. This could mean reading a book in a genre you usually don't, going places alone, or even listening to a new song! Think of your best friends, what makes them "them"? Is it something you think of when you think of yourself? If not, then do it! Be whoever you want for the day, go as far as creating an alter-ego for your days of getting out of your comfort zone!

And for my final tip: pour into your own cup. You can't be creative if you aren't fulfilled. If something just isn't working out, it is okay to start over. Don't like your job? Find a new one! Feeling stuck? It's okay, we all are! The best thing about being uncomfortable is that a new beginning is coming. Do the things you love with the people you love, but also the things you're scared of. Take each day slowly, doing what you want to when you want to.

Best of Both Worlds: Sustainability and Saving Money

In 2026, there is an intense pressure to be sustainable, for good reasons. Our ecosystems and environment are typically not considered in everyday decisions. No one is perfect; it is usually easier to grab a single-use bottle of water in a rush or in the checkout line at the grocery store. Being "good with money" is also expected, but difficult in this economy. Unfortunately, I did not get my degree in economics, but I can tell you for certain, everything is expensive. In the last few years I've watched the price rise on products I've always bought, whether it be food, hygiene products, or even an iced coffee from Dunkin Donuts. I would assume most individuals care about being eco-friendly and financially responsible. As a recent college grad, I have nearly cracked the code for both. I'm here to share some tips and ways to think about purchasing, acting, and living in our current society.

Two considerations I always pose to myself when shopping are: Will I use or wear this as many times as it costs? Meaning, will I wear this twenty dollar t-shirt twenty times. And, do I actually want this? Big corporations are designed to make you want to buy the newest items, how else would they stay in business? This can be quite tricky when we are following the newest trends, latest drops, and seasonal fashion. So, you must ask yourself, is this something you actually want, or is it simply popular? If this question doesn't help, where in your home will this item go? How useful will it actually be? My favorite: is the amount of packaging worth the product? While this helps me as a conscious shopper, it may not fully convince you. Let me take it a step further. Is the trendy shirt going to be a staple in your closet or a once-worn piece of fabric? Most of us love creating a new outfit for an upcoming event and that is perfectly normal. However, can those pieces be reused? If not, why not try to thrift or upcycle a piece you already own? There are dozens of "higher end" thrift stores such as Plato's Closet and Uptown Cheapskate, but also other smaller ones that may be local to you. Not only can you get a brand new outfit or wardrobe, you may find things that are no longer sold, unique or vintage, and fit the outfit you had pinned on your Pinterest board! When the high of the concert wears off, you can go home still loving your outfit and feeling grateful you have something unique and environmentally conscious! Returning to the first, similar question, this can help buyers think more critically about worth versus price. We are wearing less natural fibers and more plastic with each shopping trip. While plastic infused clothing has its perks, is it really worth the money? For example, a new pair of atheleisure shorts may cost $20-$80. Will you wear those shorts that many times? If so, the expense may be worth it. If not, we should reconsider what is it you actually need from purchasing these shorts.

On the topic of trends, anything can become popular. Snacks, skincare, clothing, trinkets, and more can be pushed onto your social media feed, encouraging you to buy. One helpful trick when it comes to buying the more "sensitive" items, and by this I mean things that vary from person to person, such as skincare, is looking at reviews! Here is where the mostly bad, but sometimes good, TikTok comes in. If you are thinking about buying something, I can guarantee someone else on TikTok has bought it. Looking up reviews can help you navigate the shopping process. Skincare is especially important because everyone has different skin textures, lives in different climates, and has a different budget. Using TikTok to look at reviews will let you know if the product is truly "acne safe", worth the money, or completely useless, while also giving you other options. Buying a high-end skin serum that breaks you out is no longer necessary with thousands of reviews that can safe you time, money, and your skin health.

Most people succumb to their desire for fast food, especially when you live alone, are a full-time college student, or a hard working parent trying to find a quick and easy dinner. We all want to enjoy a "bad" meal once in a while, there's no harm in an occasional Big Mac. Many restaurants, fast food chains, and coffee shops have rewards programs, and if you go even just once, signing up may be worth it. McDonald's has new deals every day, many of which save customers $2-$8 per purchase. Even if you pick up a quick drink or fry from one of these chains once a week or once a month, points add up! However, sometimes the points expire in a month or a year, so make sure to be aware! Deals are not limited to fast food restaurants either, many grocery stores have coupons, weekly discounts, and other programs to reduce food costs. My college campus was located directly across from Harris Teeter. Harris Teeter is a more expensive grocery store, but they have the VIC rewards program and simply typing in your cell phone number at check out can save you a lot of money! College students get an additional 5% off as well. However, not everything is always on sale, be sure to check the app for weekly deals! Other grocery stores may use coupons, and although Walmart doesn't, most stores have a decent clearance section! I've purchased nice dishes for as low as fifty cents!

A more time-consuming tip for saving money is to do your research. Cross-checking prices can be frustrating, but you would be surprised how prices vary per store. TJMaxx and Ross are similar stores and sometimes located right beside each other, but they are not sister stores. This can be useful for the customer! Ross's prices are typically $3-10 cheaper for the same items that are being sold next door a TJMaxx, which is also a cheaper alternative for Walmart and Target! This applies for food too, sometimes buying in bulk at Sam's Club or Costco is cheaper than Walmart, but Walmart may be cheaper than Target! It depends on the season, type of product, and location, so this entire process can be overwhelming. If you have the means to go to each of these stores, keep an eye out for these themes! While saving a couple dollars doesn't seem like a major score, each penny adds up! Check for different deals within each store as well! Target often does gift card rewards, coupons, and other money-saving incentives!

We are more creative than we think and it can pay off when we want to be sustainable and save money. One brainstorming session can go a long way! For example, the glass jar your coffee came in can be reused as a cup, a container, or a vase! The ribbon your new pj set came in can be wrapped around this weekend's birthday party gift for extra flair! Pinterest can be an incredibly useful tool when looking for ways to repurpose things as well. If you have absolutely no use for trash or old items, discard them properly. If possible, recycling is a great option, but also ecobricks! Ecobricks are very simple and prevent small pieces of plastic or other trash from getting into bodies of water or flying about on the interstate. Ecobricks can be made with any large plastic container you were already planning to discard, such as an empty milk jug. When you rip something open like a package, pop a ballon, throw away gum wrappers, and any other small (or large and malleable) piece of recyclable plastic, simply stuff it into the empty milk jug until full, and then toss it into the recycling bin. For other items such as clothes or furniture, thrift stores are a great place to donate! If you live in a large community, you can also check for families in need, neighborhood yard sales, or sell the items in decent condition on Facebook marketplace! At the end of the day, we are all here to help each other. If you aren't in need now, you may be in the future. Each of these actives are a great way to get involved with the community, save money, and be sustainable. Together, we can make a better future for ourselves and those around us.

Remember, consumers have power! I hope these tips and tricks prove useful, as we are all trying to make it through! Don't forget to treat yourself as well! Life is purely a balance, and learning how to balance, is what is important.

Environmentalism on the Screen: An Unheard Message

Environmentalism is exactly what is sounds like, a movement to preserve and protect the environment. Environmentalism is not new, but the ways it is presented to us is changing. One example of the ways we are exposed to this ideology is through movies. And although some would beg to differ, art, including movies and films, is political. Here's what I can tell you: stories move us, they make us care. Storytelling is a huge part of human culture and it always has been. Stories engage us and allow us to live in another "life", so to speak, for brief moments. Storytelling isn't just oral communication, but also pictures, videos, movies, and more. The digitalization of storytelling has had astounding results but there is one fault. Not everyone can fully understand. Media and film literacy is a tool that is absolutely necessary in the world we live in, but it is not taught as much or as often as it should be, especially considering the speed of innovation. Unfortunately, this defeats the purpose of environmentalism in movies, which can be detrimental to both the art and the message of what's on the screen.

I see environmentalism the most in children's movies. Some of these include 2008 WALL-E, 2012 The Lorax, 2024 The Wild Robot, and 2026 Hoppers. Although this list is short, the message each of these movies share is nearly twenty years old, but what have we learned? These movies primarily being targeted to children is a catch-22. While the animation or child-like scenarios are easily digestible for a wide audience, adults are less likely to be as perceptive. Not to say the message isn't there, but it fades into childhood memory - a movie enjoyed on a Friday night accompanied by pizza and soda. Further, it is easy to ignore such issues when a small, furry, orange man is standing up for cotton-candy colored poofs.

I've heard more than one adult discuss the tragedy they have seen in other similar films, like Avatar, The Hunger Games, and Star Wars, incredibly successful series I might add, but remain unable to connect the dots. Where is the inspiration behind these movies? I'll let you in on a secret, the inspiration is right in front of both you and me. Our society can easily cover up atrocities through many methods and we have become blind enough to go without noticing the propaganda in front of our eyes. What was once deforestation for urbanization and timber harvesting has now become AI data centers taking over to "improve" our society as it sucks up our fresh water, kills native plant and animal species, and causes unbearable noise pollution.

I propose a solution. I believe that if, with fresh critical thinking skills and media literacy, we re-watch these classics, we can become more in-tune with important messages. What we see in these children's movies is no longer a warning, it is reality. We must return to them to return to what is important.
